Steel DIN551 / DIN553 slotted socket Allen set screws with flat point and cone point
Description:
A set screw is screw for adjusting or clamping parts of a machine. Also is a type of screw generally used to secure an object within or against another object, normally not using a nut (see bolts compared with screws).A blind set screw is almost always driven with an internal-wrenching drive, such as a hex socket (Allen), star (Torx), square socket (Robertson).A potentiometer knob with a set screw for locking it in place. An example application is when set screws are screwed into a pulley hub so that its end-point bears firmly against the shaft.
For longer life, set screws are usually made of alloy steel and case hardened. Hardened set screws often leave a plastic deformation, in the form of a circular or semicircular mark, in the shaft that the screw sets against.Set screws appear with a variety of tip (point) types. The different shaped tips have different properties that engineers can utilize. The top of the screw may be slotted for use with a screwdriver, or may have a hexagonal shape. It is used for permanent or semi-permanent installations, and provides a high level of security and control. Cone-pointed screws have a very sharp point that may penetrate the inner object to hold it in place permanently. The use of keys and keyways instead of, or in combination with, set screws is common for applications requiring high torque resistance or transmission. This can result in difficulties during dis-assembly if a bearing or other tightly toleranced part needs to slide past this area. Use of a flat mitigates this problem.Standard processing of these socket set screws includes a passivation treatment which neutralizes surface contamination
Advantages:
1.Alloy steel black oxide finish
A very high strength heat treated alloy steel. Black oil oxidation finish.
A highly corrosion resistant grade of stainless steel. Ideal in salt water and chlorine environments.
It is more expensive than 18-8.
The most common stainless steel for general hardware use for.
