1.Product Description
Socket caps have a small cylindrical head with tall vertical sides. Allen (hex socket) drive is a six-sided recess for use with an allen wrench (hex key). A tempered medium carbon steel. Grade 8 is stronger than grade 5, and is commonly found in high strength automotive applications.
Socket head cap screws supply high tensile strength than equivalent hex head caps screws, meanwhile requiring less surface area to countersunk head screws. Known as the Allen bolt or allen head screw. The same to the countersunk head screw, the head of the buried into the parts, which serves the greater strength of the connection. Socket head cap screws are ideal for precision work with close tolerances and applications whcih need a well tooled appearance. The material are normally Alloy Steel, Stainless Steel and Carbon Steel.Strength of the screw is by the head marking, defined by the applicable products' standard.While many hex cap screws may be found in vehicles, socket head screws are becoming more popular and have some space saving advantages over hex cap screws. Socket heads take up less space themselves and don't require side room for wrenches. They also are usually made from stronger alloy steel vs. hex cap screws, but this depends on the grade and manufacturer.
Most socket head screws accept a hex or Allen wrench (6 sided), but Torx heads (loosely, a 6 pointed star) are also available. Torx sockets were originaly designed to prevent the driver from camming out, and can transfer more torque than a Phillips or slotted driver. They don't require large amounts of pressure to keep the bit in the socket. Some people say that it's faster to insert a bit into a Torx screw than a hex socket, which would be advantageous in manufacturing environments.
